Faucet Manual

About Faucet Manual: what it covers and what it doesn't

Faucet Manual helps a homeowner work out which cartridge, fill valve or flush part is inside a US faucet, shower or toilet tank, and replace it with the water shut off at the fixture.

Who it is for

People with a dripping shower, a faucet that will not shut off cleanly, or a toilet that refills on its own, who would rather swap a part themselves than wait for a service call. The pages assume a screwdriver, an adjustable wrench and a towel, not a trade background.

Independence

Faucet Manual is independent. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Moen, Delta, Kohler, American Standard, Fluidmaster, Korky, TOTO or any retailer. Brand names and part numbers appear only so you can match the part you have. The drawings on this site are our own simple drawings, not copies of manufacturer diagrams, and they are not to scale.

Part numbers, fit and adjustment steps come from the maker's own instructions where the maker publishes them, or from a parts retailer's listing where it does not. Each guide links to the official parts or support page so you can confirm a number before you buy. If something on a page does not match the part in your hand, trust the part and tell us at [email protected].

The site has no affiliate links and no sponsored placements.

What it covers

  • Shower and faucet cartridges you can pull from the front of the valve once the handle is off
  • Toilet tank parts: fill valves, flappers, canister seals and flush valve seals
  • Faucet aerators
  • Rotational limit stop setting and a thermometer check after any shower cartridge change

What it leaves to a licensed plumber, and why

  • Gas appliances and water heaters, including temperature and pressure relief valves: gas and stored-pressure hazards
  • Replacing a valve body, soldering, PEX or crimp work, or anything behind the wall: one mistake floods a ceiling, and many towns require a permit
  • Main shutoff valves and supply-line re-plumbing
  • Pulling a toilet, wax rings and drain work
  • Faucets with mains-powered electronics

Every procedure on this site starts by closing the stop valve under or behind the fixture, and each one has a list of signs that mean you should stop and call a plumber.
